Overview

A naturally occurring nonapeptide (Trp-Ala-Gly-Gly-Asp-Ala-Ser-Gly-Glu) originally isolated from cerebral venous blood of rabbits during induced sleep. DSIP modulates sleep architecture by promoting delta wave (slow-wave) sleep through interactions with the GABAergic system and hypothalamic sleep centers.

Mechanism of Action

It also exhibits stress-protective, analgesic, and neuromodulatory properties.

Research Summary & Key Findings

Clinical studies showed normalization of disturbed sleep patterns in insomnia patients without next-day sedation. Demonstrated reduction in stress-related corticotropin levels. Limited clinical data but preclinical models show consistent sleep-promoting and neuroprotective effects.
