01 · Overview

A synthetic 15-amino acid peptide whose sequence is derived from a protein described in human gastric juice; it is not FDA approved. In rat and cell studies, BPC-157 promoted angiogenesis via increased VEGFR2 expression and VEGFR2-Akt-eNOS (nitric oxide) signaling (PMID 27847966).

A 2025 systematic review found healing effects in tendon, muscle, ligament and bone across 35 preclinical studies but only 1 clinical study, with no clinical safety data (PMID 40756949).

02 · Research summary & key findings

Improved functional and biomechanical Achilles tendon-to-bone healing in rats (J Orthop Res, 2006) (PMID 16583442). Rat studies report gastric protection and healing of intestinal anastomoses (PMID 21548867). Human evidence is limited to a small uncontrolled knee pain series (PMID 34324435) and a two-person intravenous safety pilot (PMID 40131143).

03 · Regulatory status

BPC-157 is currently undergoing clinical trials. It is not yet FDA-approved and is available only through clinical research settings or investigational protocols.

BPC-157 is not FDA-approved, and as of October 2026 FDA has not finalized whether pharmacies may compound it. Whether a pharmacy will compound it depends on the pharmacy and your state. If you are working on the goal it is studied for, a licensed clinician can tell you what is lawfully available, which may be something else.
