Carperitide (h-ANP)
Overview
Carperitide is a recombinant form of human atrial natriuretic peptide consisting of 28 amino acids. It activates guanylyl cyclase A receptors, increasing intracellular cyclic GMP to promote vasodilation, natriuresis, and diuresis.
Mechanism of Action
The peptide reduces cardiac preload and afterload while inhibiting the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system, providing therapeutic benefit in acute heart failure.
Research Summary & Key Findings
Carperitide received approval in Japan in 1995 for treatment of acute heart failure. Clinical trials in Japanese populations demonstrated hemodynamic improvement and symptom relief in acute decompensated heart failure, though the peptide has not been approved by regulatory agencies outside Japan.
Clinical Status
Carperitide (h-ANP) has received FDA approval and is available for clinical use under appropriate medical supervision. Consult a qualified healthcare provider for prescribing information.
