Overview

Palmitoyl Tripeptide-5 is a synthetic lipopeptide consisting of a tripeptide sequence conjugated to palmitic acid to enhance dermal penetration. The peptide is designed to stimulate collagen synthesis by mimicking the activity of thrombospondin-1, a matricellular protein involved in extracellular matrix remodeling.

Mechanism of Action

Its therapeutic rationale centers on attenuating photoaging and improving skin elasticity through upregulation of Types I and III collagen in dermal fibroblasts.

Research Summary & Key Findings

In vitro studies have demonstrated increased collagen gene expression and decreased matrix metalloproteinase activity in cultured human fibroblasts. Small-scale human pilot studies reported improvements in skin roughness and fine lines after 12 weeks of topical application, though peer-reviewed controlled trial data remain limited.
